At least 12 people were killed and 27 others injured in a suicide blast carried out by “Fitna al-Khawarij”, a proxy group allegedly backed by Indian-sponsored and Afghan Taliban-linked elements, outside the district courts in Islamabad’s G-11 sector on Tuesday.
The initial reports suggested the explosion occurred just outside the court premises, hitting people standing nearby.
The rescue officials said nine people were confirmed dead, while at least 21 others sustained injuries in the powerful blast.
However, the latest reports suggested that 12 people were killed and more than 20 people were injured, including lawyers and litigants.
Police sources said the explosion was a suicide attack, and the severed head of the suspected bomber was recovered from the road. The attacker reportedly attempted to enter the court premises but detonated the explosives near a police vehicle when stopped by security personnel.
Following the blast, an emergency was declared at PIMS Hospital, where rescue teams and police vehicles continued to shift the injured. Rescue 1122 and other ambulance services were also engaged in transporting victims to the hospital.
Heavy contingents of police reached both the blast site and PIMS Hospital to assist in relief operations and maintain order. Forensic teams were called to collect evidence from the scene.
Among the injured were three police officers who were stationed near the entrance of the district courts.

According to the sources, the bodies of 12 victims have been shifted to PIMS Hospital, where 21 injured persons are under treatment in the emergency ward.
Security has been heightened across the federal capital as law enforcement agencies launch an investigation into the attack.
“It was ‘Fitna al-Khawarij’, a proxy group allegedly supported by India and linked to the Afghan Taliban,” said the police.
Speaking to the media, Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi said the attack took place at 12:39 pm on Tuesday, which claimed 12 lives and left 27 others injured.
He explained that the suicide bomber had attempted to enter the court premises but, failing to gain access, detonated the explosives near a police vehicle.
“The first priority is to identify the attacker, and all individuals involved in the district court attack will be brought to justice,” the minister added.
Referring to a similar incident in Wana, Naqvi said a vehicle-borne suicide bomber had exploded at an entry point there on Monday.
Security clearance operations in Wana are ongoing, and preliminary investigations indicate Afghan involvement, with communications reportedly maintained from across the border.
Officials have stepped up security measures across the capital and are continuing forensic and investigative operations to apprehend those responsible.
