Chairman PTA Elected as Chairman of SATRC

Pakistan has taken an important leadership role in regional telecom cooperation, as Chairman PTA, Major General (R) Hafeez ur Rehman, was unanimously elected Chairman of the South Asian Telecommunication Regulators’ Council (SATRC).

The announcement came during the opening of SATRC’s 26th meeting in Islamabad, a three-day forum being hosted from November 5 to 7 by the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority in collaboration with the Asia-Pacific Telecommunity.

Expanding digital connectivity

In his remarks, the newly elected Chairman said Pakistan would work to deepen regional collaboration, expand digital connectivity, and accelerate the adoption of emerging technologies.

He said the focus must now shift to inclusive digital growth that benefits all South Asian economies.

The gathering has brought together telecom regulators, experts, and industry leaders from across the region to discuss policy alignment, digital infrastructure, spectrum harmonisation, and the future of ICT innovation in South Asia.

IHC reinstates PTA chairman

Earlier, the Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Thursday suspended the single bench’s ruling that had removed Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) Chairman Major General (retd) Hafeezur Rehman from office, reinstating him until further proceedings.

The case was heard by a two-member bench comprising Justice Muhammad Asif and Justice Inam Amin Minhas.
