Newly-elected Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has directed the concerned authorities to take immediate action to halt power outages, vowing that the country will not suffer from a gas and electricity crisis.
Shehbaz Sharif presided over an emergency meeting on energy on Wednesday. The meeting went over a strategy for controlling electricity loadshedding and providing petroleum products.
During the summer, the country experiences an increase in power outages. The newly-elected premier directed the concerned ministries to take immediate action to control loadshedding, as well as to investigate the causes of the frequent power outages. He warned that he would not tolerate any laxity on the part of ministries in this regard.
The meeting was attended by Shahid Khaqan Abbasi, Miftah Ismail, and representatives from the petroleum and finance ministries.
Shehbaz vowed that he would not let the country face a gas and electricity crisis. He claimed that the previous PTI government made exaggerated claims about the country producing an excess of electricity. He wondered why, if we had enough power, we were still subjected to load shedding.
The premier also issued critical instructions regarding petroleum products.
