US President Donald Trump on Monday called the signing of the Gaza Peace Agreement a “great honour” and a “historic achievement” that will usher in lasting peace across the Middle East.
Speaking to the media after the signing ceremony, Trump said, “It is a great honour for me to have a Gaza peace agreement. The bloodshed in Gaza has stopped because of this accord. The time has come to rebuild Gaza, and we will all rebuild it together.”
He emphasized that the peace deal will bring long-term stability to the region, thanking all countries that contributed to its success. “I am grateful to all the nations that made this agreement possible. This is a historic day for the entire world,” he added.
Trump praises Field Marshal Asim Munir, PM Shehbaz Sharif
During his remarks, President Trump made special mention of Pakistan, referring to Field Marshal Asim Munir as his “favourite”, while acknowledging the participation of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif at the summit.
“My favourite Field Marshal from Pakistan is not here today, but the Prime Minister of Pakistan, Shehbaz Sharif, is with us. Come and express your thoughts,” Trump said, inviting the Pakistani leader to address the gathering.
Trump’s acknowledgement highlighted Pakistan’s visible diplomatic role in the regional peace process and its continued support for stability in Gaza.
What Makes Asim Munir Trump’s Favourite Field Marshal?
Pakistan’s COAS Asim Munir has become Trump’s favourite due to multipe reasons including strategic cooperation, counter-terrorism collaboration, diplomatic rapport and mutual interest.
Since his oath taking cermony, Asim Munir has adopted a balanced approach for regional peace and stability especially in the Middle East.
Trump has multiple times appreciated Munir’s role in supporting the peace process that led to the historic ceasefire between Israel and Hamas.
Asim Munir has also collaborated to counter terrorism in the region that have earned Munir Trump’s admiration.
Some political experts beleive that the meeting between Trump and Munir at the White House, where Munir presented Trump with a box of rare earths, may have strengthened their relationship.
