Famous gangster Teefi Butt, the prime suspect in the Ameer Balaj murder case, was murdered by his own associates during an alleged police encounter on the outskirts of Rahim Yar Khan on Saturday morning, sources confirmed.

According to initial reports, Teefi Butt—whose real name was Khwaja Tareef—had been detained in Dubai through Interpol and brought back to Pakistan for investigation.

Police sources said that while he was being transported to Lahore for questioning, two of his close associates attacked the police convoy on Ahmedpur Lama Road and opened fire.

Eyewitnesses told reporters that the sudden exchange of gunfire created panic in the area. Authorities have since taken the body into custody and launched a preliminary investigation into the incident.

Profile of Teefi Butt

Teefi Butt was considered one of Lahore’s most influential underworld figures, reportedly involved in cases of land grabbing, extortion, and illegal possession of weapons.

For years, he remained a wanted man across Punjab, operating through a network of loyal gang members. His death is being viewed as a significant setback for urban mafia groups active in major cities of the province.

Experts believe the killing reflects growing mistrust and internal fractures within Punjab’s criminal networks.

“This incident shows that the underworld has lost its sense of loyalty and control,” one law enforcement source commented.

Officials suspect that Teefi Butt’s associates may have turned against him to seize control of his operations or to silence him before he could reveal key information during interrogation.

Observers describe the event as “a story of betrayal from within” — a downfall not orchestrated by state forces but by the very people who once guarded him.
