Bilawal says CM Maryam’s efforts must be recognised.
Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Chairman Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari on Friday said that the efforts of Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz must be recognised.
According to details, the chief minister has visited Kasur and addressed a press conference, highlighting the severe impact of floods in Punjab and calling for federal assistance under the Benazir Income Support Programme (BISP).
Provincial government’s efforts
Bhutto-Zardari said that flood damage in Punjab was extensive and visible across various areas. He acknowledged that the provincial government was working diligently but could not address the crisis alone.
He requested the federal government to extend help to affected families through BISP, as had been done during previous floods.
He recommended that an agricultural emergency be declared in the flood-affected regions and support be provided to farmers in the form of seeds, fertilisers and concessional loans.
Bhutto-Zardari stressed the need for compensation based on damage assessments and called for relief in electricity bills for farmers. He emphasised that support should continue until the complete rehabilitation of the affected population.
Commenting on the broader political context, he said there would be no move towards any controversial action, adding that unity must prevail. He criticised India for withholding information, saying it had ignored humanitarian concerns.
