The Pakistani nation is observing its 78th Independence Day with great enthusiasm on Thursday.

The day dawned with a 31-gun salute at the Federal Capital and a 21-gun salute at provincial headquarters.

Special prayers were offered in mosques for peace, solidarity and prosperity of the country.

The main flag-hosting ceremony was held at the Pakistan Monument in Islamabad.

Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif unfurled the national flag.

It is important to note that the recent victory in the Marka-e-Haq against India’s unprovoked aggression has amplified the nation’s fervour for this year’s celebrations of Independence Day. Buildings have been decorated with national flags, bunting and lights.

People have raised national flags on their vehicles and rooftops of their houses. Radio Pakistan is also broadcasting special programs to mark the day.

President extends heartfelt congratulations

President Asif Ali Zardari has extended heartfelt congratulations to the nation on its Independence Day, observing that the day recalls sacrifices, unity and courage.

He paid tribute to Allama Iqbal, the founder of the nation, and all leaders of the Pakistan Movement.

He affirmed that the “Marka-e-Haq” and Operation Bunyan‑um-Marsoos stand as golden chapters in history, embodying unwavering national resolve, professional expertise and unity in the face of Indian aggression. He emphasised that the nation defended itself with restraint, strategy and resolute force.

The president declared that the world has recognised Pakistan’s full capability to uphold its sovereignty and territorial integrity. He added that Operation Bunyan‑e‑Maroos reinforced trust in state institutions.

He remarked that today, the world regards Pakistan as a peace‑loving nation. He offered heartfelt solidarity with the people of Indian-administered Kashmir, stressing that their struggle for self‑determination remains close to Pakistani hearts.

The president pledged Pakistan’s unwavering diplomatic, moral and political support until justice is realised for Kashmiris.

On the other hand, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif delivered an Independence Day message, beginning with gratitude to Allah and congratulations to the nation. He saluted Quaid-e-Azam, Allama Iqbal and all the leaders and workers of the freedom struggle.

He described the 78-year journey of independence as one of trial, divine reliance and hopeful promise. He credited the Pakistani nation with overcoming adversity to achieve success and progress across sectors—from economy to defence and IT.

He said that May 2025 marked a momentous victory in the “Marka-e-Haq”, intensifying the significance of Independence Day and elevating national joy and spirit. He praised the armed forces—likened to lions and falcons—for the courage, skill and faith that forced the enemy to yield within hours.

The prime minister paid tribute to the martyrs whose sacrifice offers the nation its cool shade and prayed for their souls’ elevation.

He said that the “Marka-e-Haq” represented not only a military victory but the triumph of the Two‑Nation Theory.

He reaffirmed resolve to protect national interests in defense and water resources. He expressed commitment to Pakistan’s territorial integrity, defence and protection.

He added that as a peace‑loving nation, Pakistan believes in resolving regional and global issues through diplomacy. He urged India to embrace that spirit in addressing all outstanding disputes, including Kashmir.
