ISLAMABAD: The PML-N decided on Sunday to hand up the Punjab chief ministership to the PML-Q and informed their decision to the Chaudhry brothers, according to sources close to the situation.
The PML-Q leaders, according to sources, requested time for a consultation.
Both parties agreed to continue conversations before making a final decision on a political agreement in a few days.
A delegation from the PML-N met with PML-Q President Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain and Punjab Assembly Speaker Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi to discuss issues of mutual concern, including the no-confidence motion.
Khawaja Saad Rafique, Khawaja Muhammad Asif, Rana Tanveer Hussain, Sardar Ayaz Sadiq, Rana Sanaullah, and Attaullah Tarar were among the PML-N delegation members.
Meanwhile, the Chaudhry brothers of the PML-Q, as well as Federal Ministers Tariq Bashir Cheema, Moonis Elahi, Salik Hussain, Senator Kamil Ali Agha, and Hussain Elahi, took part in the talks.
After the meeting, PML-N leader Khawaja Saad Rafique told the media that his party and the Chaudhrys have collaborated on the same platform for decades. “We have a lengthy relationship and have consulted on the present political circumstances, and this will continue,” he continued.
He argued that the no-confidence motion against Prime Minister Imran Khan had no political motivation because of national issues. “Imran Khan had just empty slogans,” he continued.
He stated that the PTI government should resign if Pakistan is to be saved. “We will move forward in politics together, and the hatred between the two parties is ended now,” he said of the meetings.
When asked if the PML-N was willing to hand up the CM post to Pervaiz Elahi, Saad said the no-confidence motion was not for a political bargain or any give and take because the Opposition was adamant that the PTI government’s three years were awful and the allies were unhappy with it. “We come here to request their assistance in bringing the country out of difficulty,” he stated.
Tariq Bashir Cheema, Federal Minister for Housing, said the PML-N team had arrived to seek support for the no-confidence vote, and that the consultation would last two days.
In response to a query, he stated that it was their intention for all allies to make a collective choice. “However, we have had a bad experience with the government,” he added.
Pervaiz Elahi met with former President Asif Ali Zardari and PPP Chairperson Bilawal Bhutto Zardari after meeting with the PML-N team.
On Sunday night, Pervaiz Elahi, Bashir Cheema, and Salik Hussain paid a visit to Zardari House. The no-confidence motion was addressed at the meeting, and the PML-Q is anticipated to make a final decision within a day or two.
