FBR extends sales tax and excise return filing deadline.
The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has officially extended the deadline for filing sales tax and federal excise duty returns for the tax period of June 2025, granting taxpayers additional time until August 4 to submit their returns.
To facilitate the businesses
Earlier, the deadline was set for July 18, but the extension was announced to facilitate businesses and individuals who were unable to meet the original timeline.
According to an FBR statement, while the due date for filing returns has been pushed forward, taxpayers must ensure that the tax due is paid by the original deadline to benefit from the extended filing date.

On June 10, Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb had announced a major overhaul of the tax return system, aimed at making it more user-friendly and transparent.
While presenting the federal budget 2025-26 in the National Assembly, the finance minister had revealed that the new system would enable salaried individuals and small business owners to file their tax returns themselves without requiring the assistance of a lawyer.

As per the new system, only seven basic pieces of information would be required, and there would be no need for a lawyer or expert.
Aurangzeb had emphasized that digital transformation was a key component of the FBR improvement plan, which would facilitate taxpayers and expand the tax network.
The new system, implemented from July 1, was aimed at simplifying the tax filing process and making it more accessible to a wider audience.
