Several still missing in Babusar as the Karakoram highway remains blocked.
While rescue efforts in Gilgit-Baltistan have led to the safe evacuation of over 250 stranded tourists, at least 15 individuals remain missing after being swept away in flash floods near Babusar, officials confirmed on Wednesday.
Spokesperson for the Gilgit-Baltistan government, Faizullah Faraq, said that all passengers and tourists who were trapped on the Babusar Highway following torrential rains have been shifted to safety.

He added that those rescued are currently being hosted in Chilas city, where local hotel owners, in collaboration with the administration, have provided free accommodation.
However, search operations are underway for those still unaccounted for. “Rescue teams have resumed efforts to locate the missing individuals. We are doing everything possible,” Faraq said.
The region witnessed widespread devastation due to heavy downpours, cloudbursts, and subsequent landslides.
Large boulders carried by fast-moving water channels have caused significant damage, particularly in the Diamer Valley, where over 50 houses were reportedly destroyed. At least five people have lost their lives as a result of the disaster.

In addition to Babusar, hundreds of travellers remain stranded along the Karakoram Highway, which has been blocked at multiple locations.
“The Karakoram Highway is closed again at one or two points. Thousands of passengers are stuck at different sites. Efforts are underway to restore the road by dusk,” said the GB spokesperson.
