Pakistan supports Iran’s nuclear programme for peaceful purposes, says PM Shehbaz.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif reiterated on Monday that Pakistan supports Iran’s nuclear programme for peaceful purposes.

Addressing a press conference with Iranian President Dr. Masoud Peshkeshian, Shehbaz said that Pakistan and Iran have agreed to boost cooperation in trade and investment sectors.

He said that Pakistan and Iran have deep-rooted religious and cultural relations.

He said that Dr. Masoud called him to express his concern about the tension in the region caused by the conflict between Pakistan and India.

He thanked the Iranian president for expressing his feelings about the people of Pakistan.

Shehbaz said the Iranian foreign minister was one of the best diplomats and he got an opportunity to meet him in Islamabad. He said that he was ready to talk to India for the sake of peace in the region.

During his meeting with the Iranian president, Shehbaz raised the Kashmir issue and offered to cooperate with India in the field of counterterrorism.

He said that Pakistan was extremely concerned about the Israeli genocidal actions being committed in Gaza.

Earlier, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif was given a guard of honour at Saadabad Palace in Iran, where he arrived to hold a meeting with the President of Iran, Dr. Masoud Pezeshkian.

As the prime minister arrived at the Palace, he was warmly received by President Pezeshkian.

The national anthems of Pakistan and Iran were played as the prime minister stood at the salute dais.

The smartly turned-out contingent of the Iranian armed forces presented the guard of honour which the prime minister reviewed along with President Pezeshkian.

Later, both the dignitaries introduced their respective delegations to each other before proceeding to their meeting.

Earlier, Prime Minister Shehbaz landed in the Iranian capital city from Istanbul, on the second leg of his four-nation visit, also including Azerbaijan and Tajikistan.
