Moonis Elahi lands in London amid political kurfuffle

Moonis Elahi, the Minister for Water Resources and the leader of the Pakistan Muslim League-Q, will have significant political meetings in London.

Elahi told that he will be in London for about four days, but that he will not be attending any political meetings during that time. Trusted sources, on the other hand, have told a different story.

Elahi is expected to meet with a few key political figures now stationed in London, according to sources.

According to a family source, there was no meeting planned, but Shahbaz Sharif met with Gujarat Chaudharies two weeks ago for the first time in a long time, and relations between the two sides have improved.

Elahi arrived in London on British Airways aircraft BA 260 on Thursday afternoon.

When reached by Geo News, Elahi stated that he was in London for a personal visit. He claimed he’ll remain in London for a while to deal with some family concerns.

Elahi stated that the PML-Q remained an ally of PTI-led administrations in the centre and Punjab and that Pervaiz Elahi, his father, and former Punjab chief minister, will decide on the future course of action.

The minister for water resources has struck a conciliatory tone after the Opposition launched a no-confidence vote against Prime Minister Imran Khan, and has requested PM Imran Khan to tell his lawmakers to remain cool and not panic.

His father, on the other hand, has declared that Prime Minister Imran Khan’s government is “incompetent and failed on many fronts” in recent days.

Elahi claimed that PM Imran Khan’s nappies had been changed by someone else for over 3.5 years and that the assistance he had been receiving to operate and manage the government was no longer accessible.

Elahi further claimed that Imran Khan committed a deadly error by participating in the Pakistan military’s internal issues.

The News reported in September 2020 that the government had urged the UK to assist in tracing any concealed assets belonging to Elahi in the UK, following directions from Prime Minister Imran Khan’s office.

According to reliable sources, Pakistani government officials have conducted thorough investigations to learn about any assets owned directly or indirectly by Moonis Elahi, Pervaiz Elahi, Chaudhary Shujaat, or any of the other family members.

At least two requests for assistance in asset tracing have been made to the British government, but the search has so far revealed no positive results.

After the PTI and Pakistan Muslim League (Q) formed a coalition in Punjab and the Centre two years ago, the federal government filed the first request to the UK government’s Home Office.

The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) and another investigating agency made the request. A similar letter was addressed to the British Virgin Islands, requesting information on Elahi’s purported holdings. Pakistani officials were notified by both the Home Office and the BVI that they were unable to track assets.

According to The News, a second request was made in recent months — not by the NAB — to see if Elahi, his father, his uncle Shujaat, and other family members possess any assets in the UK.

The PML-Q leader went before the NAB in early 2018 to answer inquiries about his name appearing in the Panama papers.

Elahi has stated that he has declared all of his assets to Pakistani authorities.

Pervaiz Elahi claimed this week that while his party was a part of the PTI government, PM Imran Khan’s administration attempted to get Moonis imprisoned through the NAB.
