Lahore High Court reinstates Lt Gen Munir Afsar as Nadra chairman.

The Lahore High Court has reappointed Lt Gen Munir Afsar as the Chairman of the National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA), following an intra-court appeal by the federal government on Tuesday.

The decision came from a two-member bench led by Justice Chaudhry Muhammad Iqbal.

The court’s ruling temporarily suspends the earlier decision by a single bench that declared Lt Gen Munir Afsar’s appointment as NADRA chairman null and void.

Representing the federal government, Deputy Attorney General Asad Ali Bajwa and Additional Attorney General Rashiddin Nawaz Kasuri argued that the single bench’s decision was not in accordance with the law.

During the hearing, Justice Iqbal questioned which specific notification had been challenged in the petition.

The government’s lawyer clarified that the notification regarding the appointment of the NADRA Chairman was under dispute.

The court issued a notice to the petitioner, Ashba Kamran, and issued a restraining order while the case proceeded.

Petitioner Ashba Kamran was present in the courtroom during the proceedings.
