Qureshi deliberates on Ukraine issue with EU representataive

Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi spoke by phone on Thursday with Josep Borrell, Vice-President of the European Commission and High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy.

A statement released by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA) indicated that during the conversation, perspectives on the UN General Assembly’s extraordinary session were exchanged.

Qureshi recalled Prime Minister Imran Khan’s comments on the current situation between Russia and Ukraine, saying the premier regretted the situation and expressed Pakistan’s hope that diplomacy could prevent armed war.

The minister stated that the PM has been emphasizing the significance of diplomatic solutions to the negative impacts of conflict on emerging countries.

Qureshi informed Borrell of Pakistan’s principled approach, which is based on the promotion of peaceful resolution of conflicts via dialogue and diplomacy while expressing great worry about the recent course of events.

He emphasized Pakistan’s continued effort on de-escalation, fresh dialogues, ongoing dialogue, and ongoing diplomacy. He emphasized the necessity of finding a solution that follows applicable multilateral agreements, international law, and UN Charter principles.

Borrell discussed the issue and its implications for world peace and security, as well as the global economy. He emphasized the need for continuing diplomatic efforts.
