PM’s relief to people is result of no-confidence movement: Opposition

Opposition parties claimed that Prime Minister Imran Khan’s decision to lower petroleum and electricity prices was the result of a long march and no-trust motion to oust the government, claiming that the government was concerned and thus the prime minister announced relief for the people.

In a surprise decision, Prime Minister Imran Khan declared in a national speech on Monday that petrol and diesel prices would be slashed by Rs10 per litre.

In addition to various other alleviation measures, he promised an Rs5 cut in electricity bills.

“Imran Khan’s legs are trembling now,” PPP chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, who is organizing a protracted march against the present administration, complimented the people on lower petroleum prices, adding, “Imran Khan’s legs are trembling now.”

Miftah Ismail, a former finance minister, and PML-N leader, similarly blamed the drop in petroleum prices on the opposition’s pressure methods on the government.

Miftah Ismail, speaking to media, said that those who recommended not to worry are now frightened because of the no-trust move against the PM.

Senator Sherry Rehman of the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) claimed the PM’s declaration was the outcome of Bilawal Bhutto’s long march.

“We have just begun a long march, and further relief measures will be unveiled before the PPP arrives in Islamabad,” she continued.

PML-N spokesperson Maryam Aurangzaib claimed the reduction in petrol and power prices was a futile attempt by the PM to save his job.

“His [Imran Khan’s] choice reflects a rising dread of a no-confidence vote in the National Assembly,” she continued.

PPP senior leader Khursheed Shah claimed that the PPP’s long march forced the prime minister to focus on the needs of the people, but that Imran Khan’s game is now done.

Imran Khan used to insult opponents, according to PML-N leader Pervaiz Rasheed, but now he is afraid of losing his own seat.
