Pervaiz Elahi won’t be Punjab’s CM, says Zubair

LAHORE: PML-N leader Mohammad Zubair expressed his displeasure with the PPP and JUI F’s proposal saying that Pervaiz Elahi could not be his party’s first choice for Punjab’s chief ministership.

Two days prior, the PPP and JUI-F had put an option on the table before PML-N to offer Punjab’s chief ministership to PTI’s close ally PML-Q in order to successfully move a no-confidence motion against Prime Minister Imran Khan in the National Assembly.

If the CM Punjab’s portfolio is offered to Pervaiz Elahi, the PML-Q has stated that they will support the Opposition in Punjab and the Centre in a no-confidence motion.

In exchange for supporting the no-trust motion, the PML-Q demands the seat of Punjab Chief Minister from the Opposition.

Pervaiz Elahi’s name is on the table for CM Punjab by the PPP and JUI-F.

We have the required amount of signatures for a no-trust motion, according to Rana Sanaullah.

Nawaz Sharif’s spokesperson Mohammad Zubair said that handing over the CM seat to Pervaiz Elahi “could not be our priority,” adding that “still there are many things that need to be agreed upon.”

“Discussion about the possibility of handing over the CM Punjab portfolio to Pervaiz Elahi does not imply that the PML-N leadership has made a decision,” he remarked. The former governor of Sindh went on to declare that the PML-N and other opposition parties are united on one issue: PM Imran Khan’s removal.

“We [opposition] parties are absolutely agreement that ousting the present government is in the best interests of the country,” he added.

In response to a question about Maryam Nawaz’s absence from the Opposition party’s meeting, he stated that Maryam Nawaz has been present at all meetings since the beginning because she is looking into every detail behind the scenes.

“She has been included in every meeting of the Opposition and plays an important part in decision-making while also providing input,” he continued.

“Nawaz Sharif is in charge of the entire process because his choice is final, which is crucial,” he said.
