Controversial tweet: Imran Khan refuses to meet FIA probe team in Adiala jail

Imran Khan refuses to meet FIA probe team in Adiala jail.

Former Prime Minister and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan has refused to cooperate with the Federal Investigation Agency’s (FIA) cyber crime team, sources within Adiala Jail confirmed to The Asian Mirror.

The team visited Khan late Thursday night to question him regarding a controversial social media post on X, formerly known as Twitter.

According to sources, Khan declined to answer any questions from the FIA team without the presence of his lawyers.

“I will answer any question in the presence of lawyers,” Khan reportedly said. The team subsequently recorded his response in writing.

The investigation by the FIA’s cyber crime wing was triggered by a post attributed to Khan, which urged Pakistanis to study the Hamood ur Rahman Commission Report to discern the true traitor between General Yahya Khan and Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.

The post has sparked significant controversy and backlash.

PTI Chairman Barrister Gohar defended Khan, asserting that the former premier was unaware of the post’s content before it was uploaded to his account.

Gohar emphasized that the tweet was taken out of context, stating, “The context and comparison that we drew with 1971 was in a political context and not otherwise — nothing about the army.”

Despite the clarification, the post drew severe criticism from various quarters, including Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, who stated that Khan’s true face was now visible to the nation.

In response, PTI maintained that the reference to the events of 1971 was intended as a historical reminder, urging people to learn from the past.

The FIA’s cyber crime wing decided to initiate action after a “propaganda video” featuring Sheikh Mujibur Rahman was posted from Khan’s account on May 26.

Sources within the FIA indicated that the agency plans to interview four PTI members, including Khan, Gohar, PTI Information Secretary Raoof Hasan, and Secretary-General Omar Ayub, to ascertain whether the post was made by Khan himself or with his consent.

The investigation will also focus on identifying the creator of the “anti-Pakistan propaganda” video.

“If the account holder is found to have posted the content, legal action will be taken against him. If not, the account holder will need to apply for the closure of his X account,” the sources added.
