LAHORE: The Opposition’s last meeting discussed launching a no-confidence motion against Prime Minister Imran Khan and holding talks with the PTI-led government’s supporters, according to sources.
The news broke at a meeting of three major opposition groups — the PPP, PML-N, and JUI-F — at the home of PML-N President and Leader of the Opposition in the National Assembly, Shahbaz Sharif.
Following a luncheon held by the PML-N president, Shahbaz met with Maulana Fazlur Rehman, the leader of the Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM), and Asif Ali Zardari, the co-chairman of the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP).
Sources told the media outlet that the anti-government long march was also discussed as the Opposition analyses alternatives for overthrowing the present regime.
Fazl meets the Chaudhry brothers for the first time.
Following the luncheon at Shahbaz’s home, Fazl, the leader of the PDM and the JUI-F, paid a visit to the Chaudhry brothers, who are important government supporters in Punjab and at the federal level.
According to sources close to the issue, the country’s present political crisis was discussed during the meeting, which was Fazl’s second with the PML-Chaudhry Q’s brothers in as many days.
PDM joins forces with PPP for a long march
Meanwhile, sources close to the situation told Geo News that the PDM has decided to join forces with the PPP to back the PPP’s lengthy march towards Islamabad against the PTI-led government.
The PDM, an alliance of eight opposition parties led by the PML-N and the JUI-F, has decided to welcome the long march convoys.
According to sources, the PML-N would greet the convoys in Punjab, while the JUI-F will do likewise in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
The news came a day after Fazl and PPP co-chairman Asif Zardari met for the first time.
Various options for the success of the no-trust move against the prime minister were discussed during the meeting, according to insiders, and the two leaders also decided to take estranged PTI leaders into confidence.
It has been determined that workers from PDM component parties will greet long march participants in each city across the country. According to sources, opposition leaders will give remarks while standing on top of containers, and no platform will be set up in any location during the march.
Upon arriving in Islamabad, a large public meeting will be held at which the date for the no-trust motion will most likely be announced.
According to sources, neither the long march nor the PPP’s sit-in in Islamabad will take place.
