PTI leaders ‘take oath on Quran to end infighting’.
In response to growing speculations of internal discord within the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) party, leaders have reportedly taken an oath on the Holy Quran to end infighting and maintain confidentiality regarding decisions made in the party’s core and political apex committees.
Concerns Raised Within PTI Core Committee
The emergence of internal conflicts within PTI’s ranks became apparent when PTI Chairman Barrister Gohar Ali Khan relayed messages from the incarcerated PTI founder to key members including Omar Ayub Khan and Shibli Faraz.
Several core committee members have voiced concerns over decisions made by the party’s top leadership, leading to heightened tensions within the party.
Efforts to Maintain Discipline and Confidentiality
Addressing a PTI gathering via video link, Chairman Gohar expressed doubts about whether the oath on the Holy Quran would effectively prevent the leakage of important party discussions to the public.
He emphasized the importance of assessing the situation following the imprisonment of the party founder, Imran Khan, and stressed the necessity of maintaining discipline by refraining from disclosing significant party decisions publicly.
Focus on Bushra Bibi’s Health and Political Neutrality
Chairman Gohar also called for a medical examination of Bushra Bibi at Shaukat Khanum Hospital to investigate allegations of poisoning during her detention at Bani Gala sub-jail.
He maintained that her health issues should not be politicized.
Criticism of Election Commission and Internal Party Dynamics
In a critical tone directed towards the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP), Gohar accused the institution of failing to fulfill its constitutional responsibilities, alleging that PTI’s victories in the 2024 nationwide polls were being undermined.
Responding to public criticism from PTI stalwart Shehryar Afridi regarding the party leadership’s decisions, Gohar acknowledged Afridi’s sacrifices and leadership status, encouraging him to raise concerns through official party channels.
Future Decision-Making Post Imran Khan’s Release
Gohar outlined that decisions concerning the return of politicians who publicly announced their departure from the party would be deferred until after Imran Khan’s release from jail.
Afridi’s Allegations Reflect Internal Strife
The escalating internal tensions within PTI were highlighted by Afridi’s recent remarks during a public gathering in Kohat, where he referred to certain party members as “hypocrites” and “snakes.”
Afridi’s comments came following his unsuccessful bid for a Senate seat, which was rejected by senior PTI leaders.
Social Media Spat Adds to Party Turmoil
As PTI leaders take oath on Quran to end infighting, earlier, a dispute erupted on social media between Sher Afzal Marwat and Salman Ahmad, a close aide of Imran Khan, after Ahmad referred to Marwat as a “wrong number.”
