ISLAMABAD: Asif Ali Zardari of the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) is scheduled to meet with Maulana Fazlur Rehman of the Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM) at his residence in Islamabad today (Monday), as the parties’ disparities narrow over parliamentary resignations in the wake of a no-confidence motion against the incumbent PTI government.
The two leaders are anticipated to discuss the strategy for launching a no-trust resolution against the ruling PTI, which the unified Opposition is expected to file soon. Despite the fact that everyone is on the same page, the roadmap for the no-trust step has yet to be finalized.
According to insiders, the conference would also examine connections with the government’s supported parties as well as the country’s broader political situation.
According to the reports, after the meeting, Fazl would give a banquet for his guests in honor of Zardari.
The two leaders will meet for the first time since the PPP withdrew from the coalition of opposition parties. After disagreements between the component parties’ leaders about how to remove the existing government, the former split from the PDM.
PPP was resolute about introducing in-house change rather than retiring from parliament, but in light of the shifting situation, PDM has agreed to do so as well.
Zardari has been in Islamabad for a few days and has held low-key discussions in this regard. The PPP has announced preparations to begin a long march towards Islamabad on February 27, whilst the PDM’s decisive political campaign would begin on March 23.
‘Secret’ meeting between Shahbaz Sharif and Jahangir Tareen
According to sources, PML-N President and Leader of the Opposition in the National Assembly Shahbaz Sharif and PTI’s disgruntled leader Jahangir Khan Tareen met privately to discuss the removal of Prime Minister Imran Khan.
The two leaders met a few days ago to discuss the destiny of the present government, according to a reliable source who spoke to The News.
When approached, Tareen declined to comment on the crucial meeting, which comes after the Opposition announced that it will initiate a no-confidence resolution against Prime Minister Imran Khan.
‘Politics entails such interactions.’
Jahangir Tareen said that his group of estranged governing party MNAs and MPAs had given him the authority to make any political choice, without confirming or rejecting his meeting with Shahbaz Sharif.
As a politician, Tareen believes in working with other politicians. He had also stated, “Such interactions are part of politics.”
According to Tareen, everyone is dissatisfied with the country’s economic situation and the rising cost of living. He had stated that the members of his party felt compelled to respond to the plight of the people. Tareen said his group has more than 30 MPs in response to a question.
