Shaukat Tarin, a close confidant of the ex-PTI chief Imran Khan, had been elected as a senator from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on the PTI ticket in 2021.
Notably, he held the position of finance minister in Imran Khan’s cabinet from October 2021 to April 2022.
The political landscape in Pakistan has witnessed a notable exodus from the PTI, with several leaders choosing to part ways with the party in recent times.
The departure of Shaukat Tarin further underscores the internal challenges and divisions within the party.
Meanwhile, Imran Khan and his deputy, Shah Mahmood Qureshi, find themselves detained in Adiala Jail, facing charges related to cipher and other cases.
Imran Khan’s arrest in August of the current year was tied to a jail sentence handed down by an accountability court in the Toshakhana case.
Although the Islamabad High Court later suspended this conviction, a special court, established under the Official Secrets Act, subsequently approved Khan’s judicial remand in the cipher case for further investigation.
