PM launches portal for students to register complaints regarding scholarships

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Imran Khan on Thursday inaugurated a website to help students file complaints about scholarships and to enhance meritocracy and transparency in the awarding of these awards.

The tool, which is linked to the Prime Minister Citizen Portal, will allow scholarship holders to submit their complaints about challenges they are experiencing, as well as ensure that the given resources are used wisely, according to APP.

The government is currently investing Rs28 billion to fund the education of 2.6 million students, with women accounting for at least 72 percent of the total.

During the inaugural event in Islamabad, Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif announced that a team of academics would regularly monitor the portal and advise the government on providing scholarships in certain courses based on market and country needs.

Imran stated that the government had received complaints from students alleging that they had been overlooked in the awarding of grants or that their scholarships had been delayed in payment.

These objections pushed the government to implement a technology-based centralised approach for establishing scholarship verification standards, he noted.

“We can decide the future course of the country’s growth through these scholarships,” he stated, adding, “The objective of the school system should be nation building…considering the technology revolution, we should direct our youth towards technology.”

The government has also introduced a Rahmatullil Alamin Scholarship, according to the prime minister, to familiarise young people with the leadership qualities of Holy Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) and the values of the Madina state.

The PM stated that it was the role of both the government and society to guide the youth toward technology and humanity. The platform, according to the premier, would “spare the time of students and let them to focus on their study,” as opposed to “to go from pillar to post to file their scholarship-related complaints.”

The prime minister also praised the Prime Minister Delivery Unit’s staff for their efforts in launching the system, as well as the National University of Science and Technology (NUST) for its educational standards.

Shafqat Mahmood, the Federal Minister of Education, stated that the current government raised the number of scholarships as a result of the prime minister’s ambition. The government has set aside Rs123 billion for higher education, with Rs42 billion set up for new initiatives. According to the APP article, he also claimed that 28 new universities have been formed in the last three years.
