IHC issues notices to Gen (r) Bajwa, Gen (r) Faiz Hameed for ‘misrepresenting events’

In response to a petition asking for the registration of a case with the top investigation agency, the Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Monday issued notices to the former Chief of Army Staff Gen (r) Qamar Javed Bajwa and the former Director-General of Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI), Lt. Gen. (r) Faiz Hameed.

IHC Chief Justice Aamer Farooq heard the argument against the top military and intelligence official, who the plaintiff claimed violated legal restrictions and misrepresented various events shortly after leaving coveted positions.

On a request for the registration of a case against Qamar Javed Bajwa and Faiz Hameed, the court further issued a notice to Federal Investigators.

Notices in the case were also sent to journalists Javed Chaudhry, Shahid Maitla, PEMRA, and the Press Association of Pakistan.

As IHC issues notices to Gen (r) Bajwa and Gen (r) Faiz Hameed, in the written order, IHC CJ argued that despite repeated requests against the retired army officials, FIA took no action at the citizen Atif Ali’s request.

According to the petitioner, TV hosts Javed Chaudhry and Shahid Maitla conducted the interviews in order to boost their ratings, which hurts society’s institutions. In edited interviews, he claimed that the right to freedom of expression was being used for a “criminal act.”

It claimed that the interview attempted to sever ties between the state and the general populace and gave a poor impression of the armed forces.
