Medical board terms Nawaz’s report ‘incomplete’ for not containing laboratory test

The Punjab government’s medical board has rejected a report on former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif’s physical condition that was filed in the Lahore High Court (LHC) earlier this month, which barred him from returning to Pakistan until he received “definitive medical treatment.”

“If he [Sharif] returns to solitary confinement owing to a stressful environment,” Dr Fayaz Shawl cautioned in the study, “he may acquire what we term the takotsubo syndrome,” which might have “devastating repercussions.”

According to the local news media, the nine-member medical board deemed the study “incomplete” on Friday, stating that the three-page report submitted by Dr Shawal did not contain any laboratory testing or medical reports from any health facility.

Khalid Jawed Khan, Pakistan’s Attorney General, had submitted a letter to the Punjab Home Department earlier this month, requesting a medical board’s assessment on Sharif’s health.

The provincial government was asked to submit the Jan. 28 document, signed by Dr. Fayaz Shawl of Maryland, to the medical board for examination and evaluation of the former premier’s “known and published facts and public activities” in order to establish an opinion.

Last month, the AGP warned Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) President Shehbaz Sharif that if he fails to furnish medical reports for his elder brother and party supremo Nawaz Sharif within 10 days, contempt proceedings will be brought against him.

According to the AGP office, Shehbaz was required to furnish periodical “duly notarized” medical reports of his brother to the court under the terms of the undertaking he gave to the LHC.

According to the letter, Shehbaz has not fulfilled his commitment as per his solemn undertaking and court decision, as evidenced by the findings of the special medical board created by the Punjab government to investigate PML-N supreme leader’s medical reports.
