The Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) is preparing to launch a no-confidence motion against Prime Minister Imran Khan this month, as the ruling party faces new headwinds and political adversaries accelerate their efforts to depose him.
The opposition party is hammering out a plan to topple the incumbent government this month, rather than in March or May, as had been planned previously.
According to sources familiar with the situation, opposition leader Shehbaz Sharif has worked out the details of the plan, and PML-N supremo Nawaz Sharif has given him permission to do so.
According to the sources, the PML-N president is currently evaluating a ‘Plan A’ and a ‘Plan B’ for the successful implementation of this manoeuvre.
According to the sources, the likelihood of an early no-confidence vote stems from the opposition leader’s ‘backdoor interaction’ with the government’s partners and leaders of other opposition parties in order to bolster the opposition’s unified resistance to the government.
Shehbaz would also take Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) and the opposition alliance’s president Maulana Fazlur Rehman into confidence ahead of the Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM) conference.
After meeting with government allies and “angry members” of the ruling Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf, the decision was made (PTI).
However, after the PDM summit makes a final decision on the plan, real steps would be made to depose the administration.
