PPP says delay in elections ‘unacceptable’.
As the ECP agreed to complete the census process and draw new constituency boundaries, the general elections in Pakistan are reportedly being postponed until the spring of 2024. However, the decision divided PDM members.
The Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) voiced opposition to the postponement in holding elections amid the uproar, stating that the party leadership would find it unacceptable if elections were postponed till next year.
As PPP says delay in elections ‘unacceptable’, at a press conference held at Bilawal House, senior PPP figures warned that the party would pursue legal action in its final effort to push for fulfilling the 90-day constitutional limit.

Nayyar Bukhari, a pillar of the PPP, said the central executive committee will convene in September to determine the final course of action.
Key members of the former ruling alliance seem more abrasive regarding the delay in ECP’s announcement, claiming that approval of the census findings was contingent upon assurances that the action wouldn’t postpone elections.
The approval of the census would not delay the elections, according to the former CM Murad Ali Shah, who said he told everyone before the CCI meeting. Shah emphasised that recent delimitation was never a topic and that his party sought elections in 90 days.
