RAWALPINDI: Army Chief General Qamar Javed Bajwa and Prime Minister Imran Khan arrived in Nushki on Tuesday to receive a “detailed report on security in the area,” just days after security forces in the district repelled a militant onslaught.
The Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said in a statement that the army commander will spend the entire day with the troops.
“The COAS will be given a full briefing on [the] security situation in the area and operational preparedness of the formation to counter terrorist operations,” the statement stated, adding that the army chief will also “meet troops who engaged in repulsing [a] terrorist attack on February 2.”
Later, the army chief and the prime minister will receive a full briefing and speak with local tribal elders, according to the statement.
PM Imran will visit Nushki on Tuesday, when he will be briefed on the anti-terrorist operation, according to reports. In Quetta, the PM will meet with the governor and chief minister of Balochistan, as well as preside over a conference on security problems.
On Saturday, security forces finished clearance operations that began on Wednesday evening after terrorists assaulted their camps in Panjgur and Nushki districts.
During the operations, at least 20 terrorists were slain, while nine security people were martyred, according to the military’s media wing.
Nine terrorists were killed in Nushki, according to the ISPR, while four security personnel, including an officer, embraced shahadat during a “shootout with terrorists while repelling the onslaught.” The security personnel in Panjgur had repelled the terrorist attempt during an intense exchange of fire, during which several militants fled the area, according to the report.
