Arshad Sharif was assassinated in late October 2022 when Kenyan police opened fire on his automobile on the outskirts of Nairobi.
Nairobi police eventually apologized for the incident, calling it a case of “misplaced identity.”

The murder garnered widespread condemnation, with some alleging it was a premeditated assassination. Following the censure, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif announced the formation of a joint inquiry committee to ascertain the truth.
Furthermore, the Supreme Court of Pakistan has appointed a commissioner to conduct an investigation into the incident.
Arshad Sharif was a Pakistani journalist, writer, and television news anchor. He specialized in investigative journalism and covered many political events in the country for national and international news organizations, including the United Kingdom.
On 23 March 2019, he was awarded the Pride of Performance by the President of Pakistan Arif Alvi, for his contributions to journalism. He was shot and killed by police in Kenya on 23 October 2022.
