Single day death toll from corona virus jumps to 42

ISLAMABAD: The single-day death toll from novel coronavirus infection has risen to 42 in the last 24 hours, the highest level since 46 fatalities were reported on October 6 last year, according to the National Command and Operation Centre’s (NCOC) daily pandemic update provided on Thursday.

The NCOC, which is nerve center of the government’s coordinated campaign to stop the spread of Covid-19, said that the number of new cases in a single day fell to 5,830 from 6,047 the day before. It went on to say that the national positive ratio was 9.8%.

Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa had the highest numbers of new cases, with 1,589, followed by Punjab with 1,463 and Sindh with 1,419 new cases. However, Punjab had the most deaths (16), followed by Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa with 14 and Sindh with 9.

The number of recovered cases outnumbered the number of new cases, according to the NCOC, with 7,800 persons recovering from coronavirus infection in the last 24 hours, bringing the total number of active cases down to 100,072, with 1,590 patients in serious condition.
