Pervez Khattak steps down as PTI KP president. PTI Khyber Pakhtunkhwa President Pervez Khattak has announced his resignation from the party’s leadership.
The senior politician attended a brief press conference to announce his resignation as KP president and member of the PTI’s core committee. According to Imran Khan’s personal aide, he had already criticized the May 9 incidents.
Khattak’s announcement came just hours after Imran Khan claimed that members of the PTI’s negotiating team had been barred from leaving the location where they had been called for discussions.
As Pervez Khattak steps down as PTI KP president, according to previous media reports, the former minister and National Assembly speaker were detained when they arrived in the capital from Peshawar.
Khattak and Qaiser, both close aides to embattled PTI chairman Imran Khan, were members of the committee Khan appointed to negotiate with government authorities. Several former ruling party leaders, including Shah Mahmood Qureshi, are detained as discussions continue.
Following the May 9th violent protests, authorities tightened the noose around PTI office-bearers.

Pervez Khan Khattak is a Pakistani politician and a member of PTI who served as the Defence Minister of Pakistan from 20 August 2018 until 10 April 2022. He had been a member of the National Assembly of Pakistan from August 2018 till January 2023. Prior to that, he served as the 22nd Chief Minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa from 2013 to 2018.
Khattak has reformist views on Pakistan’s political system and he prioritized accountability in his own government, increased education enrollment, instituted reforms in the police and security sector, anti-polio campaign, and plans infrastructure projects; such as improving the transportation network.
He also planned to revive the local economy by helping to rebuild tourism in the area. While for the long term, he planned the industrialization of the economy and a reduction in red tape.
