ISLAMABAD: According to data released by the National Command and Operation Centre (NCOC) on Monday, the single-day tally of new Covid cases surpassed 7,000 for the second day in a row, as the fifth wave of the coronavirus pandemic proceeded unabated on the back of the Omicron strain.
During the last 24 hours, 7,195 additional people tested positive for Covid-19, while eight people died, according to the NCOC, which serves as the nerve centre of the government’s concerted campaign against the global epidemic.
According to the NCOC, the national positivity rate was 12.5 percent. According to the most recent numbers, there are now 1,374,800 cases of the disease nationwide, with 29,105 deaths. According to the data, Sindh had the largest number of new cases with 3,125, followed by Punjab with 2,108.
According to the forum, 833 people have recovered from the coronavirus, bringing the total number of people in the country to 1,269,078. The number of active cases was 76,617, while the number of Covid-19 patients in critical care was 1,113, according to the data.
The NCOC had announced a number of actions to combat the disease’s spread. New operational procedures for educational institutions and places of worship are among them. The nationwide vaccination effort, notably in schools, had also been stepped up by the authorities.
