NCOC limits activities in cities with more Covid-19 cases

ISLAMABAD: As the country faces the fifth wave of the deadly pandemic, the National Command and Operation Center (NCOC) imposed further limitations in cities with a Covid-19 positive ratio of over 10% on Wednesday.

In the past 24 hours, Pakistan has reported 5,472 new coronavirus cases, the most since August of last year. The Covid-19 positive ratio has reached 9.48 percent, according to the forum.

Under the chairmanship of Planning Minister Asad Umar, a meeting of the NCOC, which serves as the nerve centre of the country’s coordinated efforts to prevent the spread of new coronavirus, was conducted in Islamabad. The current state of the coronavirus in the country was examined, as well as the execution of preventative measures.

During the meeting, further restrictions on schools, meetings, and other areas were decided. There are also new regulations in place for the wedding sector until February 15th.

Indoor weddings are prohibited, while outdoor weddings are limited to 300 fully vaccinated guests.

All interior events, including dine-in, have been prohibited, while outside dining and takeaway have been permitted.

In cities with a Covid-19 positive rate of more than 10%, educational activities have also been limited.

“Schools with kids under the age of 12 will have a 50% attendance rate with a three-day per week schedule, but schools with students over the age of 12 would have a 100% attendance rate,” the NCOC said, adding that immunisation is required for all pupils over the age of 12.

Indoor gyms will be allowed to run at 50% full, and movies, shrines, and parks will also be allowed to operate at 50% capacity.

“All contact sports will be prohibited.” “Public transportation has also been told to keep operating at 70% capacity,” according to the forum.

Indoor gatherings of up to 300 people, including weddings, will be authorised in cities with a Covid-19 positive rate of up to 10%, while outdoor meetings of up to 500 people will be permitted.

Only fully vaccinated people will be allowed into gyms, restaurants, and parks.

The NCOC has yet to make a decision on modifications to business and office hours. On January 27, the forum will reconvene to assess the situation.
