ISLAMABAD: PML-N President Shehbaz Sharif visited JUI-F Chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman at his residence in the federal capital on Wednesday, and the two opposition leaders discussed bringing a resolution of no-confidence against Prime Minister Imran Khan.
According to sources, they also discussed the success of the opposition alliance’s long march, the Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM), which is led by the JUI-F chief. They also tried to come up with ways to stop the mini-budget bill. The government’s overall performance was analysed, as well as its response to the recent Murree disaster.
Shehbaz, who was accompanied by Fazl, later told the reporters that he hadn’t seen the JUI-F chief in a long time. Fazl’s party won the first phase of local body elections in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, according to the leader of the opposition in the National Assembly. “In the first phase, you [JUI-F] defeated PTI,” he continued.
According to Shehbaz, a meeting of the PDM leadership has been scheduled for January 25.
“At the meeting, attendees will address the anti-inflation long march as well as organisational issues.”
Shehbaz elaborated on his meeting with the JUI-F president, saying they talked about the PTI government’s “draconian” policies and the new wave of inflation that the mini-budget would bring.
Speaking at the event, the JUI-F leader predicted that the mini-budget would unleash a new round of inflation. He went on to say that the current administration was more concerned with the interests of foreign organisations than with the interests of the people. “Anti-inflation has become even more vital in such a setting.” The entire country would gather in Islamabad to battle inflation.”
He stated that this significant event in the country’s history would take place on March 23 at the national level. During the tenure of former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, Fazl remarked, a network of highways was built and power generation surged. He went on to say that it was important to accept that institutions had not intervened in the local body elections, and that the results were visible to all.
“We don’t anticipate them to meddle in the general elections, either.”
The JUI-F leader stated that the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) should make independent choices rather than following orders. “We are not going to accept arbitrary outcomes.” The suggestion to call out the army for the second phase of the LG votes in K-P was rejected by Fazl. “It’s not a matter of law and order.” The ECP should avoid causing controversy.”
