RAWALPINDI: Major General Babar Iftikhar, Director General (DG) Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR), said on Wednesday that rumours about an agreement with PML-N chief Nawaz Sharif are unfounded and unfounded.
“If somebody approaches you about a transaction, you should ask about the conditions and the name of the person who is making the agreement,” he said at a press conference regarding the region’s multi-security concerns.
He referred to it as speculation and stated that such debates should be avoided because the country has far more pressing challenges such as health and education.
DG ISPR stated that the barrier along the Pakistan-Afghanistan border is intended to protect people rather than divide them.
According to the Director General of the ISPR, they are entirely focused on creating a barrier along the Pakistan-Afghanistan border and would complete it as soon as feasible.
“We’ve completed 95 percent of the fencing project,” he said, adding that it was important to provide security and proper passage of people and products between the two countries.
“Our soldiers gave their life to build this fence, and 67 special wings for FC Balochistan and FC Khyber Pakhtunkhwa have been formed to secure the border,” he said.
According to the DG ISPR, Pakistan will suffer the brunt of the foreign forces’ withdrawal from Afghanistan, and both countries’ leadership is now working together to resolve local issues.
He also revealed that a truce with the TTP was interrupted in December 2009, and that the talks had been started at the behest of the current Afghan leadership.
‘India is on the verge of religious fundamentalism.’
According to the DG ISPR, Pakistan and India agreed to a ceasefire in 2003, and once it went into effect in February 2021, the border was once again peaceful.
“This has also improved the lives of the people who reside on both sides of the border,” he added.
When asked about threats made by Indian military officers, the DG ISPR said that they reflect a particular political mindset that has taken India down the path of religious extremism.
He stated, “Indian measures will have a negative influence on the region.”
He claimed that India had turned Kashmir into a “worse humanitarian disaster in history” because the occupied territory has been under siege since August 2019.
The DG ISPR also reminded the world community of the promise made to the people of Kashmir on January 5, 1949, about their right to self-determination.
