ISLAMABAD – Prime Minister Imran Khan opened the Hakla-Dera Ismail Khan Motorway in Islamabad on Wednesday.
The prime minister remarked during his remarks at the inaugural event that the highway will bring wealth to the backward districts that had been overlooked by previous governments.
The eastern route of the China Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), according to Prime Minister Imran Khan, has seen the most growth. He lamented that one of the problems afflicting poor countries is that a small percentage of the population becomes wealthy while the remaining suffers from poverty.
PM Imran Khan stated that a country cannot improve if some sections are left behind in terms of development, emphasising the importance of long-term planning for a country’s prosperity.
“The CPEC’s western corridor will benefit backward areas,” the prime minister said. He claims that, despite growing inflation, roads completed in 2021 will cost significantly less than those built in 2013, implying that kickbacks were paid in the past.
He asserted that it has become evident that roads are constructed for the sake of making quick money. After corruption was eliminated and land worth over Rs5 billion was reclaimed from land grabbers, the National Highway Authority’s (NHA) earnings more than doubled.
Building roads in backward areas, according to the prime minister, will bring about a revolution.
