Dr Zaeem Zia, the District Health Officer (DHO), acknowledged that there had been 18 new Omicron cases detected in Islamabad.

The number of cases in Islamabad has climbed from 66 to 84 as a result of new cases being discovered.

Citizens have been encouraged to wear face masks and get their COVID-19 vaccinations as soon as possible, according to the district administration.

On December 25, the first Omicron case was reported in Islamabad.

Asad Umar, the chairman of the National Command and Operation Centre (NCOC), claimed earlier in the day that they now have clear evidence that a new wave of COVID-19 has reached the country, citing an increase in Omicron cases, particularly in Karachi.

Asad Umar announced the news on Twitter, saying that there is obvious evidence of the start of another Covid wave, which has been expected for a few weeks.

“Genome sequencing shows an increase in omicron cases, especially in Karachi,” he added, adding that “wearing a mask is your greatest defence.”

In the previous 24 hours, Pakistan has reported 594 new cases of COVID-19, bringing the total number of confirmed infections to 1,296,527.

According to the NCOC’s most recent numbers, a total of 45,585 samples were tested over this time period, with 594 proving to be positive, indicating a countrywide positivity rate of 1.3 percent, up from 1.08 percent yesterday.
