Balochistan High Court orders Azam Swati’s release

The Balochistan High Court has ordered the police to release PTI Senator Azam Swati.

The BHC also ordered the dismissal of all five FIRs filed against Swati in Balochistan province.

On Friday, Justice Hashim Kakar heard the case.

The Balochistan High Court on Tuesday directed the police and the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) not to file any further cases against Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chairman Azam Swati.

BHC’s two-member bench comprising Justice Kamran Mulakhail and Justice Amir Rana gave this order on the plea filed by Usman Swati – son of Azam Swati. The court has directed the police IG to submit a report regarding this matter and ordered him to present the report in the next hearing. The bench said that all the institutions who are made a party in the plea by the complainant should also obey these orders. The complainant had made police, the home department, and the FIA party in the plea.

Swati was arrested last month. It was the second time the senator was taken into custody by the FIA in less than two months over controversial tweets about senior military leaders.

He was also nominated in a number of cases registered in Balochistan and Sindh for using vile language and “provoking the people against the army”.

Swati was transferred to Quetta last Friday after the judicial magistrate of Islamabad handed him over to the Balochistan police and subsequently on Sunday, a judicial magistrate remanded him in police custody for five days.

SHC issues notices to Sindh govt, prosecutor general and IGP

While hearing the Azam Swati case, the Sindh High Court issued notifications to the Sindh government, the prosecutor general, and the Inspector General of Police.

A two-judge SHC panel led by Justice KK Agha heard a petition submitted by Usman Swati on Friday challenging the registration of six charges in Sindh against PTI leader Azam Swati.

At the start of the session, Justice Agha questioned as to the location of the person against whom these cases had been brought.

Anwar Mansoor Khan, the petitioner’s lawyer, told the court that Swati was in police custody and had been transferred to Quetta.

According to the lawyer, other charges were filed against Swati throughout the country on the same subject. He claimed that these cases violated the Supreme Court’s order. He informed the bench that five instances had been filed in Karachi and one in Qambar.

In response, the court issued notifications to the Sindh government, the prosecutor general, and the Inspector General of Police, requiring them to produce a report on cases filed against Swati by December 22.
