Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting Fawad Chaudhry said on Sunday that it had now been revealed that Rana Shamim, the former chief judge of Gilgit-Baltistan (GB), had signed his ‘affidavit’ in the presence of the former prime minister and Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) supremo Nawaz Sharif in London.
He added in a tweet that it has finally been established why the former prime minister and his family were referred to as the Sicilian mafia by the Supreme Court (SC) during the Panama leaks trial.
Meanwhile, Farrukh Habib, Minister of State for Information and Broadcasting, stated that Shamim was an office-bearer of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) Lawyers’ Wing.
He said in a tweet that even his son had confirmed it, and that too on television.
“Another startling revelation is that the much-discussed affidavit, which the former judge claimed he signed in the presence of Nawaz Sharif in London, was signed in order to defame the judiciary by leveling the allegation that the courts were pressured to deny bail to Nawaz and his daughter, PML-Vice President Maryam Nawaz,” he said, adding, “That was precisely why the former prime minister was dubbed as, Rassi Jal gae, magar bal nahi gya’, he closed his tweet with a renowned Urdu saying (meaning that despite being a convict and in self-imposed exile, Nawaz Sharif is still utilizing all means possible to sneak into power again).
Rana Shamim signed the affidavit at Nawaz Sharif’s London office, according to an English daily report published today (Sunday).
According to the allegation, Rana Shamim took the oath and signed an affidavit in the office of none other than Mian Nawaz Sharif, in an attempt to indict former Chief Justice of Pakistan Mian Saqib Nisar and current Islamabad High Court judges.
The affidavit accused the former top judge of attempting to compel a judgment from a current Islamabad High Court judge against the ousted Prime Minister Mian Nawaz Sharif and his daughter, Maryam Nawaz Sharif, over a three-year-old purported event.
According to the evidence, ‘Judge Guy’ was at ‘Marble Arch,’ according to Charles Guthrie, a UK Solicitor.
Stanhope Place, Marble Arch was identified on Companies House records as one of the offices of Flagship Developments Limited, of which Hasan Nawaz Sharif is a director, and it has served as a primary gathering spot for a number of PML-N leaders in London, including Mian Nawaz Sharif.
Nawaz Sharif holds his crucial meetings in Stanhope House, which is also where he delivered his last press conference before returning to Pakistan and surrendering to the police.
Rana Shamim has never responded to an inquiry about his meeting with the PML-N chief till recently. He reacted with “no remarks” to every single media interaction outside a Pakistani court.
However, according to the evidence, Charles Guthrie affirms that the Judge was present in the Marble Arch. These discoveries are significant at a time when a Pakistani publication is facing contempt charges in the Islamabad High Court for publishing the contents of the affidavit in question.
Charles Guthrie has affirmed three times in the testimony that Rana Shamim was present at Marble Arch.
“The judging person was at Nawaz Sharif’s office,” Guthrie alleged in the evidence. “That was which office?” he was asked in court. “Marble Arch,” Guthrie replied, “like here in London.”
“He was at Nawaz Sharif’s office?” Guthrie was also asked in the evidence. When they were in there, they seemed to be quite comfortable.
“Very… sure,” the notary responded.
