In response to an earlier news conference by PTI Chairman Imran Khan, the Pakistani military forces asked the government to file a lawsuit for libel and false claims on Friday.
Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), the military’s media arm, said in a statement that the Chairman PTI’s unfounded and irresponsible accusations against the organization and in particular a senior army officer are totally inappropriate and uncalled for.
According to the ISPR, the Pakistani army takes great satisfaction in being a highly professional and disciplined organization with a strong and very effective internal accountability mechanism that is applicable to all personnel for any unlawful activities that are, if any, committed by uniformed personnel.
“However, if vested interests are tarnishing the honor, safety, and prestige of its rank and file through frivolous allegations, the institution will jealousy safeguard its officers and soldiers no matter what. The baseless allegations hurled at the institution/officials today are highly regrettable and strongly condemned,” the statement added.
The ISPR said no one would be allowed to defame the institution or its soldiers with impunity.
“Keeping this in view, the government of Pakistan has been requested to investigate the matter and initiate legal action against those responsible for defamation and false accusations against the institution and its officials without any evidence whatsoever.”
