Police clashed with demonstrators trying to reach Iranian embassies in London and Paris.
French police used tear gas and riot tactics to stop hundreds of protesters in the capital from marching to the Tehran diplomatic mission, AFP reporters and eyewitnesses said.
In London, police said they had made 12 arrests and five officers were “seriously injured” as protesters tried to break through the barriers protecting the Iranian embassy in the UK.
Protesters in Paris gathered for the second consecutive day to express their outrage over Mahsa Amini’s death following her arrest by the Iranian deputy team and to show solidarity with the protests that broke out in Iran, in which at least 41 victims were lost.
Similar demonstrations in support of Iranian women have taken place around the world. The demonstration began peacefully on Place du Trocadéro in the center of the French capital. Some demonstrators chanted “death to the Islamic Republic” and slogans against Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.
But police in full riot armor, backed by a line of pickup trucks, blocked the path of protesters as they tried to approach the Iranian embassy from a short distance.
Police fired tear gas to disperse protesters.
In a statement, the Paris police said that “groups have repeatedly tried to cross the roadblock near the Iranian embassy. The police used tear gas to repel them.”
They said around 4,000 people had gathered for the demonstration. One person was arrested for “outrage and rebellion” and one officer was slightly injured, police said.
