As the world mourns Queen Elizabeth today at her state funeral, we couldn’t help but check out some of the royal family’s biggest headlines, especially as the event blew up on Twitter.
The Prince and Princess of Wales were in attendance, grimly following the longtime monarch’s coffin in Westminster Abbey, he in military clothing and she in black, along with their two eldest sons, Prince George and Princess Charlotte. The Duke and Duchess of Sussex were also among the high-profile mourners, as were, of course, King Charles III and Queen Consort Camilla.
It should come as no surprise that Kate Middleton chose Alexander McQueen for her funeral attire. The designer also created the Princess of Wales’s wedding dress and many of her other more expensive pieces (via Town & Country).
In addition to buzzing about the princess ensemble for the very sad day, Twitter also made a very interesting remark about the Duchess of Cambridge and Cornwall. Appearing under her hat and veil, which is a common accessory for senior royals at funerals to give them more privacy, observers thought Kate Middleton looked like another family member she would often disagree with. If you had guessed Meghan Markle, you would be right.
While the comparisons between Kate Middleton and Meghan Markle will never end, with one person on Twitter claiming that the former can never be the “it girl” with the latter around, fans of the new Princess of Wales were on hand to give their opinion to let them know that for them only her presence at her funeral won the day.
