Sedition Case: Shahbaz Gill’s bail request rejected

PTI leader Shahbaz Gill’s request for bail in a sedition case against him was denied by an Islamabad court on Tuesday.

After hearing all of the arguments from both sides, Additional District and Sessions Judge (ADSJ) Zafar Iqbal reserved the decision on Monday.

Due to the divisive remarks, he made earlier this month on television, the PTI leader is currently being charged with sedition. On August 9, he was taken into custody by the Islamabad Police at Banigala Chowk.

In a different instance involving the seizure of weapons from his room at the Parliament Lodges, bail had previously been granted.

After several back-and-forth hearings and continuous accusations from Gill’s attorney against the Islamabad police, he was arrested in the sedition and guns recovery case and is currently being held after being placed under judicial remand.

The police gave Gill’s attorney the case file on Monday as instructed by the court.

Gill’s attorney argued during the prior hearing that the police failed to present the Section 161 statement. The attorney stated, “All comments but Gill’s are being displayed by the police.” The court then ordered the police to give Gill’s initial statement to the defense attorney.

Giving arguments, Gill’s attorney claimed that the local magistrate who filed the complaint had accused the PTI leader of sedition after snippets from the transcript of his speech were taken into consideration.

“Gill never considered betraying his country. Gill must have made a mistake in his comments, which he is willing to clarify. “After the army aircraft disaster, a false tweet was issued, and it later went viral. Shahbaz Gill is not at blame for anything, the attorney claimed, noting that the accused PTI leader even wanted punishment for the incorrect tweet.

Regarding the strategic media cell, Gill’s attorney claimed there was a mastermind behind it who he would not identify, and that the group’s goal was to cause a split between the PTI and the army. The mastermind, according to him, instigated propaganda against Imran Khan and the PTI.

He questioned how it was conceivable that Imran Khan or his party were against the Pakistan Army martyrs. Invoking the Asia Bibi blasphemy case, the attorney said that a case was inadmissible if the complainant claimed that the accused had incited hatred for the army but the accused had not.

He claimed that the PML-N insisted Gill had betrayed the army. He questioned, “How can they attribute a meaning of their own to Gill’s remarks?
