Shahbaz Gill, the leader of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), was accused of an encouraging revolt against authorities, and he on Thursday requested bail before a nearby sessions court.
Sources claim that Gill’s legal team submitted the plea on his behalf, stating that the prosecution against him was founded on “bad faith and political malice.”
In his first informant report (FIR), Gill claimed that portions of his statement—for which he was imprisoned—had been misrepresented. According to the application, Gill was ineligible for prosecution under the FIR’s stated rules.
PTI leader asked for bail from court
Prior to his transfer to the jail on judicial remand, Gill underwent a preliminary medical examination by the jail medical officer in accordance with the jail manual. His pulse, sugar, blood pressure, and other factors were examined, and slight variations were discovered, according to authorities.
Gill informed the doctor that he was taking medicine for each of them. Furthermore, according to sources, Gill had a history of coughing, infections, and respiratory issues.
He received a B grade and was then sent to his cell after the medical test.
Requests for physical detention are denied
On Wednesday, a local court in Islamabad denied the Islamabad police’s appeal for an extension of Shahbaz Gill’s physical remand and instead ordered the PTI leader to prison on judicial remand.
Since the physical remand of Imran Khan’s chief of staff expired on August 24, Judicial Magistrate Malik Aman rejected the police’s request for a seven-day extension.
The judge informed Gill’s attorney, Faisal Chaudhry, that the power of attorney had already been signed before he had the opportunity to make that announcement to the court.
“Case-based solely on lies”
Following the hearing on Wednesday, Gill’s attorney, Chaudhry, addressed the media and stated that a bail application would be made as soon as possible to free the PTI leader. He also stated that the prosecution’s case against Gill was “nothing but lies.”
The use of “custodial torture” must be opposed by all parties, according to Chaudhry, and everyone must speak out against it.
Additionally, he brought up the pending bill against torture in detention, saying that the government must approve it.
Following the filing of a sedition complaint at the federal capital’s Kohsar police station due to Gill’s contentious comments about the military, on August 9 he was taken into custody. He was presented before the judicial magistrate the following day, and on August 12, he was placed under judicial remand and taken to jail.
