Hamza Shehbaz, Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leader and son of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, filed a petition in the Supreme Court (SC) on Friday, asking the court to review its July 26, 2022 decision in which it declared the Punjab Assembly (PA) deputy speaker’s ruling in the election for Punjab chief minister null and void.
On July 26, 2022, the Supreme Court overturned the ruling of then-Punjab Assembly deputy speaker Dost Muhammad Mazari in the run-off election for Punjab Chief Minister.
Mazari rejected the votes of PML-Q members of the Punjab Assembly (MPAs) in favor of Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi during the provincial chief minister election on July 22, citing a letter from PML-Q leader Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain under Article 63-A of the constitution.
In an 11-page short order, the Supreme Court accepted Elahi’s plea and proclaimed him Punjab Chief Minister.
