The Supreme Court of Pakistan on Tuesday nullified the verdict of Punjab Assembly deputy speaker Dost Muhammad Mazari during the run-off election for Punjab Chief Minister.
Mazari rejected PML-Q members’ votes in favor of Ch Pervaiz Elahi at the province chief minister election on July 22, citing a letter from PML-Q leader Ch Shujaat Hussain under Article 63-A of the constitution.
In an 11-page brief order, the Supreme Court granted Parvaiz Elahi’s petition and appointed him as Punjab Chief Minister.
While reacting to the decision of the supreme court, Imran Khan praised the judges for upholding constitutional values. He took to Twitter and said,
“I appreciate our SC judges for standing firm & upholding the Constitution & law, against all manner of threats & abuse. I want to thank Barrister Ali Zafar & his team. I want to thank the people of Punjab for coming out in unprecedented numbers in bye-elections against rigging.”
