The Islamabad High Court on Thursday ordered that the objections to the Public Accounts Committee’s decision to summon former NAB DG Shahzad Saleem in the Tayyab Gul harassment allegation case be removed.
Shahzad Saleem’s application was heard by interim chief justice Amir Farooq of the IHC, who also issued an order requiring the demurrals to be lifted within two days.
The petitioner’s attorney informed the court that Mr. Saleem’s biometric could not be processed and stated that he would be in court today to take the necessary action. He asked the court to schedule today’s hearing in the case.
Contradicting him, the acting chief justice stated that he still upheld the petition’s objections and added that he would investigate it once the file was given a number.
The petition was returned to the petitioner with the judge’s instructions to remove the objections within two days.
Shahzad Saleem, a former director general of the NAB, filed a petition with the Islamabad High Court on Wednesday challenging the PAC’s decision to summon him in response to Tayyaba Gul’s allegations of sexual harassment.
Saleem has joined the National Assembly secretary, PAC Wing, and other parties in the plea, which claims that the PAC had no authority to issue the notice.
DG NAB has asked the court to rule that the PAC summon is invalid in a petition.
Saleem added that it was impossible to rule out the possibility that the petition was submitted by the PAC chairman in order to benefit personally and asserted that the concerned woman has access to other “relevant forums.”
The Public Accounts Committee has previously called Tayyaba Gul, Shahzad Saleem, the director general of the NAB in Lahore, and former NAB chairman Justice (retd) Javed Iqbal.
