Shaista Pervaiz Malik of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) won the NA-133 constituency on Sunday, allowing her party to keep the seat in a constituency that has long been a stronghold for the party.
According to unofficial preliminary results, Malik defeated PPP opponent Aslam Gill by 14,498 votes, gaining 46,811 votes to Gill’s 32,313, according to the unofficial figures.
Her late spouse Malik Pervaiz died in office, leaving the NA-133 seat vacant.
The PML-N has won the seat for the fourth time since 2008, however this time by a lesser margin than in the 2018 elections.
Pervaiz Malik received 89,699 votes in 2018, which implies the PML-N received 42,888 fewer votes this time.
PPP’s Gill, on the other hand, has received 26,728 more votes than he did in the 2018 polls when he received only 5,585.
In the 2018 general elections, PTI’s Aijaz Chaudhry received 77,293 votes.
Asif Ali Zardari, the president of the Pakistan People’s Party, congratulated workers on the party’s “splendid results.”
“The leadership, staff, and workers of the Peoples Party Central Punjab have borne fruit,” Zardari said, according to the PPP.
PPP Central Punjab President Raja Pervez Ashraf was congratulated by Zardari.
“The by-election in Lahore proved to be a watershed moment for the Peoples Party,” Zardari stated.
According to the PPP president, the party has been “reborn” in Lahore, which would provide the push for reform in Punjab.
While noting that his party waged a “strong” campaign in Lahore, PML-Ali N’s Pervaiz Malik remained steadfast in his determination to challenge PPP’s improved performance in the province.
“Raja Pervaiz Ashraf distributed money among people,” he claimed, referring to a video that leaked in the run-up to the election showing voters being “purchased” and taking an oath.
The PML-N had reacted angrily, accusing the PPP of using similar methods to “sabotage” the poll.
“What has the Peoples Party done to increase their vote from 5,000 to 30,000?” Malik was the one who inquired.
He stated that his group is having the video forensically examined and is awaiting the results.
Even though results for at least ten polling stations were still pending, the PML-N camp erupted in joy.
The party released a message on Twitter, applauding all workers and quoting Shahbaz.
Shahbaz was cited in the release as stating, “I also congratulate the winning candidate Shaista Pervaiz Malk.”
Shahbaz Gill, the prime minister’s political communication secretary, predicted as much earlier this week, tweeting that the PML-N is vying for the seat “alone” and that “in the evening they will celebrate victory in the race that they waged alone.”
“With such a low voter turnout, it is apparent that the people are uninterested in a campaign in which (Prime Minister Imran) Khan’s party is not competing. The public has identified these crooks for what they are “he stated
