Pakistan People’s Party won a resounding victory in the first round of yesterday’s local government elections in 14 Sindh districts after taking 2,189 seats.
The JUI did well as well, earning 64 seats to place second overall. The Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf performed poorly, and only 13 of its candidates won their elections, limiting the Grand Democratic Alliance’s ability to win 43 seats.
In Kandhkot, where 15 of its candidates won on 16 wards of the municipal committee, the PPP won handily.
Additionally, in Tharparkar, PPP candidates won elections in 20 of the 32 union committees.
The PPP won 14 seats in Mirpurkhas. PPP in Shikarpur continued to be successful on 27 UCs. Eight of the PPP candidates continued to be successful while in Umarkot.
