PM constitutes committee to allay MQM reservations

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif constituted a three-member committee on Saturday to monitor progress on the commitments made to the Muttahida Qaumi Movement Pakistan (MQM-P) prior to the vote of no confidence.

On his visit to Faisal base Karachi, PM Shehbaz Sharif met with a MQM-P team led by convener Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui for 45 minutes, according to details.

The MQM-P leadership demanded that the PM be a guarantor in the MQM-PPP contract and that work on federally funded city projects, including the K4, be expedited.

The meeting was also attended by PML-N leader Khwaja Saad Rafiq, and it was held in a friendly atmosphere. The PM promised MQM-P leaders that he would keep the pledges he made to them prior to the vote of no confidence against Imran Khan.

The MQM-P leaders expressed dissatisfaction with the poor progress on agreements given to them, particularly by the Peoples Party. There has been no implementation of the Local Body Draft, nor has the Supreme Court’s directions been followed.

They also expressed concerns about the delay in the appointment of the Governor of Sindh. The MQM-P demanded that their offices be opened and that a new census be conducted.
