IMF loan programme not to ease Pakistan’s woes: PM Shehbaz

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has stated that Pakistan’s problems will not be resolved even if the International Monetary Fund (IMF) agrees to restart the loan programme.

Shehbaz Sharif told PML-N senators on Thursday that, while the government has finalized the conditions with the IMF for the loan revival, Pakistan’s problems will not go away.

The prime minister expressed optimism that the agreement with the IMF would be completed if the Fund did not impose new conditions.

Shehbaz Sharif stated that the incumbent government’s allies have decided that it will serve out its term. He revealed that some coalition members thought they should hold elections after implementing reforms. “But it’s final now; we’ll finish our term,” he added.

The prime minister attacked the previous PTI government, claiming that the Imran Khan administration finalized an agreement with the IMF but did not implement it.

“When defeat stared in their faces they deliberately lowered the petrol price and even did not bother for the federal cabinet’s approval,” he said.
